The Story
A timid cashier and Sunday painter throws away everything for a woman who only wants to use him.
Edward G. Robinson's Chris Cross rescues the alluring Kitty from a beating and tumbles into infatuation, never guessing that she and her grifter boyfriend mean to bleed him dry. To keep her, the meek clerk starts down a road of theft and deceit from which there may be no return. Fritz Lang's pitch-black noir, one of the bleakest American films of its era.
